CABI understands the value of ensuring that our highly qualified workforce has access to appropriate professional development opportunities. Current opportunities include:

  • PRINCE2 – all our projects are run using PRINCE2 and we arrange annual courses for colleagues across the organisation
  • ‘Future Leaders’ programme – a talent management development programme to help develop the future leaders of CABI and promote teamwork
  • CABI Development Bursary – a scheme by individual application to encourage short secondments between CABI offices
  • Annual ‘I Love Learning Day’ initiative – a day to encourage team and individual learning
  • Mini-MBA – a series of senior management development programmes
  • Formal higher education and research – part-funding of PhD or Masters qualifications, where this will have a tangible business benefit and subject to application
  • Organisation-wide training, for example on Monitoring and Evaluation and Diversity

CABI operates a number of in-house recognition schemes to recognise excellence in performance and innovation. Local managers are empowered to recognise their staff through informal methods of non-financial recognition:

Above and Beyond Awards – a cash award that rewards good work ‘above and beyond the call of duty’

CABI Innovation Award – an annual award that promotes innovation across CABI, with cash prizes towards Learning and Development/Training available for the winners

CABI Development Bursary – an annual scheme which offers the opportunity to undertake a short secondment from one CABI centre to another, by individual application and based on an assessment of the business and the personal benefits of the secondment. Recent examples include successful secondments from Ghana to Brazil, Malaysia to UK, UK to Kenya and Pakistan to Malaysia.

Review CABI's Policies.

There are many ways in which CABI staff can voice their opinions and receive support if needed. CABI has a staff council, chaired by our Chief Executive Officer, which enables representatives from each of our worldwide offices to meet twice a year to discuss matters of interest to the staff and business. The staff council has undertaken a number of significant projects which have had a business impact, including implementing ways to make CABI more sustainable and reviewing our values.

Staff in the UK may wish to join our recognised trade union, Prospect.

CABI works across a diverse range of communities worldwide. We take corporate responsibility seriously and undertake a number of initiatives to ensure that CABI makes a positive impact within the local communities in which we operate. 

Our “Greening CABI” group involves representatives from each office to share, review and recommend environmental initiatives, contributing to CABI’s corporate responsibility work.

CABI larger locations have thriving sports and social clubs, activities include: fitness classes, football, table tennis, social nights, charity cake bakes. CABI UK has its own choir.
