The beef regime.

The reformed livestock support system of the European Union post 1992 is reviewed. Particular reference is made to the livestock support regime in Denmark and the UK and its implications for bee farming. The impact of the reformed policy is discussed using data from two studies: 389 beef farmers in the UK (1995/96) and 101 livestock farmers in Denmark [year not given]. The eligibility of livestock for support in the European Union as a whole is discussed along with policy options for the future. These include fine-tuning the design of stocking densities, and the use of the area payments. Treatment of the beef sector within Agenda 2000 is discussed.
