A critical review of approaches to measure satisfaction with tourist destinations.

This paper critically examines to what extent the existing customer satisfaction-dissatisfaction (CS/D) theories are applicable for the measurement of satisfaction with tourist destinations along with their strengths and weaknesses by reviewing previous literature within the related area. Among the approaches examined, which have been adopted into tourism research for the measurement of satisfaction with tourist destinations, are: 'expectance-performance'; 'importance-performance'; 'disconfirmation'; and 'performance-only'. This study also aims to emphasize main points which need to be developed further in a destination-based CS survey. Implications and recommendations are drawn for the use of the CS measurement process in the investigation of destination satisfaction research.
