Chapter 5 (Page no: 101)

Leisure participation and time-use surveys: Germany.

This chapter presents an overview of leisure policy and leisure behaviour in Germany and presents data on the leisure budget in terms of expenditure and time allocation. It is indicated that, in the 1990s, about 15% of the disposable income of German families of two adults and two children with average income is spent on leisure goods and services. About 20%, or 5 hours, of an average day is available for leisure among Germans aged 12 years and over. Differences in leisure time between the former East and West Germany are briefly discussed. The economic dimensions of the leisure sector are then highlighted, followed by a brief look at leisure trends.
