Chapter 7 (Page no: 127)

Leisure participation and time-use surveys: Hong Kong.

This chapter re-visits the question of East-West influences by examining findings from recent surveys (1993-2000) of leisure participation in Hong Kong. It also examines the impact of technology-based leisure and mass media on the leisure lives of people in Hong Kong. It specifically examines participation trends, as well as the actual and preferred leisure activities of Hong Kong people. While family-based leisure continues to be important in Hong Kong, the growing popularity of technology-based leisure suggests that more and more people are being drawn into solitary activities. It is suggested that more technology-based leisure means that people's leisure lives will be shaped increasingly by outside influences.
