Gene construct and expression: information relevant for risk assessment and management.

This chapter introduces and explores some aspects of transgene loci and their expression that are relevant for assessing the possible environmental effects of transgenic aquatic organisms, particularly transgenic finfish. Basic transgenic technology is reviewed, and major concerns surrounding the molecular structure and expression of transgenes in fish are presented. Moreover, strategies and methodologies for addressing these concerns are identified. Recommendations for minimizing environmental risks are given.
