Chapter 17 (Page no: 244)

Agritourism on the edge.

This chapter discusses agritourism as a means of product promotion by the agricultural and food industry. Companies arrange special agritourist facilities such as museums, exhibitions, tasting salons, restaurants or galleries. However, the idea of agritourism in huge metropolises does not have to be purely abstract. It is enough to realize that every day large agglomerations consume huge amounts of food, which they usually also produce. In many metropolises there are farming, fruit-farming, horticultural or even animal breeding facilities, as well as facilities for the food farming industry and trade in these products, which may constitute a perfect base for agritourism. These facilities have a large agritourist potential, which may be a source of considerable income. Virtual tourism and agritourism are becoming a more and more realistic opportunity for millions of people all over the world. Sometimes virtual tourism becomes a form of temporary escape from the problems of everyday life. Virtual tourism may also be an introduction to real tourism. Simply speaking, it is possible to plan and then realize such a programme. Tourists are willing to visit agritourist farms that produce alcoholic drinks and liqueurs.
