This chapter focuses on the global role of performed music as a cultural resource that has historically adapted to new geographical locations, assimilating the cultural and musical nuances of that location. It explores the community dynamic and relationships within performed music and its patterns and traditions, but also the impact of commercialization on music and music as a resource for tourism. In tracking musical change within an historical context, the chapter highlights the role of globalization in cultural change within the context of music.
