Chapter 4 (Page no: 30)

Pilgrimage, religious tourism and heritage in Calabria.

This chapter analyses the contemporary forms of pilgrimage and religious tourism in Calabria from a specific perspective, that of mystic figures in present times. Focus is placed on Fratel Cosimo (i.e. Brother Cosimo), a contemporary figure at the origin of a very important cult in Calabria. Cosimo's experience gave rise to a community dedicated to the Madonna dello Scoglio (literally, Our Lady of the Rock) as well as to new facilities needed to host and manage the enormous flow of visitors to the pilgrimage site of Santa Domenica in Calabria.
