Chapter 4 (Page no: 106)

Nutritional management.

This chapter is framed on how to manage the nutritional budget for better growth of goats, on the basis of market demand. The provision of the required level of energy in goats is an unavoidable part of maintaining a healthy herd. Protein is one of the basic units for the building blocks of cells. If the level of protein in a goat's diet is inadequate, then fetal development can be affected. In addition, it could lead to reduced growth and development and milk production. It also explains how the nutritional requirement is fixed on the basis of age, sex, breed, production system (dairy or meat), body size, climate and physiological stage. The formulation feed in different agro-climatic regions is also explained. The success of small ruminant health management is an essential practice for commercialization of goats. Good feeding and proper breeding needs to be complemented with good health management to ensure that goats remain healthy and produce quality milk and meat.
