Chapter 1 (Page no: 1)

Introduction and summaries of chapters.

This chapter provides information on the current knowledge on arthropod vision and the results of successful manipulations of arthropods. New methods for using optical manipulation to protect against arthropod pests and to improve the performance of beneficial arthropods are discussed. Developing new methods for optical manipulation should be based on knowledge about light (both natural and artificial, and unpolarized and polarized), and on arthropod vision and behavior.
