This chapter discusses the origin, current areas of production, maturity and harvest indexes, quality (including consumer preferences), physiological characteristics, packaging, handling during harvesting, optimum storage conditions, retail outlet display considerations, physiological disorders, berry pathology problems, fumigation with sulfur dioxide (SO2), suitability as a fresh-cut product and utilization, as well as special and quarantine treatments, of table grape. Special research needs are mentioned, which include the replacement of SO2 with less toxic chemicals and/or organic approaches, and introduction of table grape cultivars with predominant flavors and different shapes.
