14 December 2017 - CABI was delighted to welcome a delegation from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) to discuss the next steps for exchanging scientific expertise and talent for agricultural development research. The meeting was held in Wallingford on 20 November 2017.
The delegation, which met at CABI’s Head Office in Wallingford, UK, on 20 November 2017 was led by Prof Jia Guangdong, Director General of Department of Human Resources, Member of Leading Party, CAAS and comprised representatives from the Institute of Vegetables and Flowers, Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning and the Graduate School and Department of International Cooperation.
CABI’s Neil MacIntosh, Executive Director, HR and Qiaoqiao Zhang, Memberships Director, hosted the meeting, which provided the CAAS delegation with useful information on CABI’s relevant HR strategies, scientific research, international development and knowledge management capabilities. These are all important for maintaining the organisation’s long-term partnership with China, particularly CAAS.
CAAS gave a presentation on the scope of CAAS and their scientific research platforms, the extent and nature of their international cooperation, their approach to the recruitment of scientific talent and initiatives to further develop talent, as well as highlighting linkages for CABI and other international partners.
The delegation is particularly keen to work with CABI on continuing the exchange of scientists, developing a global partnership programme for talent and establishing a long-term mechanism for talent exchanges.
The meeting signifies the first steps for greater dialogue between the HR functions within CABI and CAAS, building on what has been achieved to date through the joint laboratory in Beijing.
